Top Yoruba Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, has spoken out on one of the thorniest issues in the entertainment industry: the high rate of celebrity marriages failure.

Aigbe, who is married to Lanre Gentry, and has also had her own fair share of drama when it comes to relationships, is definitely in a position to speak on why celebrity marriages fail, since she’s a successfully married celebrity, and she didn’t mince words when speaking about the subject with respected media outfit, E-Rave.

According to her: “Divorce is not only in the entertainment industry. It happens everywhere and is not peculiar to Nollywood actresses only. The rate of divorce in the industry is way more than what we witnessed five or ten years ago. Some marriages fail because some people are not ready to stay married or they are wrongly advised.”

Explaining further, she said, “Some people get married for the wrong reasons. When they get into it, they find out that the main reason they got married in the first place was not properly identified. Such people then look for a way to get out of it by every means possible.”

And, concluding, she said celebrity marriages are “more challenging because celebrities are constantly under public scrutiny. Whatever we do is in the public eye and we are not given a chance in any way. Also, the pressures from the media and some writers who don’t confirm their stories properly contribute to the crash of celebrity weddings. Some journalists are too lazy and forget that they have to take the pain to confirm their reports before going public while some others want to get back at you for no just reason.”
