Bobby Benson's granddaughter tries to fill his boots

It’s never easy to fill a great man’s shoes. Many people have tried it and failed. No matter whom the great man is, no matter his field of endeavour, people find it downright impossible to fill their shoes. One such great man is the late Bobby Benson. In his lifetime, he was a very successful musician, and one of his songs, Taxi Driver, remains a classic evergreen. And as daunting as trying to live up to his legacy is, a lady, Coco Benson, who happens to be his granddaughter, has taken it upon herself the task of filling his boots by taking on a music career. She released her debut song and video, They Call Me Coco, last year, and made a bit of an impact. She followed it with other releases and now she’s back with her latest video for her own version of Taxi Driver. One thing is obvious. She’s really trying her best to make a name for herself in music just like her grandfather. And it’s also obvious that she’s not just relying on her grandfather’s name, but really working hard and inve

The only thing I can't do is kill -Samklef

Samklef is one of the nation’s acclaimed music personalities. He’s a singer-producer-director with several hit songs to his name. He told OSEYIZA OOGBODO BLOG how music began for him and how he made headway in it to become the success he is. What’s your view of the music industry? We are trying, but still have a long way to go. The only thing is that the media don’t understand the music chain yet. I don’t want to mention names, but when I see the categories of some awards, I get disappointed because they don’t know how to specialise music, they don’t know genres of music. All the same, most of the songs we are doing are afrobeat. Many artists in Nigeria started singing from the church, but virtually all of them sing secular music, not gospel. Why? Some people will not like me for what I’m about to say right now. Everybody started from the church, but the churches don’t show love to artists. Most of these pastors don’t care about you, they don’t even want to know what you are going thr

Frustration? ... Isaac Geralds blasts his supporters

It’s not easy to become a successful and popular artist. To do so, an aspiring artist would have to have a lot of support from a lot of quarters. One artist who has had such support is Isaac geralds. He’s not yet the most in-demand artist in the country, but he has made some name for himself thereby. Now, as 2016 is set to really commence, he has unleashed a tirade against his supporters, telling them he doesn’t need their unrewarding help this year. According to him: “I mean business in 2016. No time for cheap talk. Don't call me for free shows. Don't tell me you’re giving me a platform. I'm providing you with entertainment and so you should pay for the service. Thanks for your understanding. Isaac for Isaac Geralds!” So if you’re one of those Geralds is referring to, you know yourself.

Trending babe: Gabi Fresh

It’s not easy to trend, so when anyone trends, you just have to commend the person. One such person trending right now is a babe who goes by the name, Gabi Fresh. In a world where big bodied women find themselves discriminated against, and one of their popular number in Nigeria, the comedienne, Lepacious Bose, is publicly making it known that she’s extremely happy to be shedding her excessive fat which she was once extremely proud of, Fresh is still staying loyal to her big shape. And she’s so loyal to it to the extent she’s making it known to other big body babes that they don’t have to shed weight, that they can be attractive, sexy, successful and whatever they want to be just by being confident in their body. So she posts pictures of herself continuously on the internet looking happy and sexy and she’s even making money by marketing bikinis for fat babes very year and her collection for this year is out now on gabifresh.com Oh well, some see opportunity where others don’t.

Tiwa Savage piles pressure on her rivals

There’s been a lot of talk about the return of Tiwa Savage to the music industry from her maternity leave. In December 2015, she made her return official with the releases of her sophomore album, R.E.D, and the video of her song, African Waist. Needless to say, both generated a lot of buzz and are still buzzing. But, aware she has to really prove she’s back, she’s not wasted anytime to put out another video, this time for Standing Ovation in which she featured Olamide. She dropped the video during the week, and it’s buzzing. So she’s really making moves as expected and the industry is taking notice. She’s yet to really get into full groove, but when she does, can her rivals who shone in her absence really stand the heat? Can Yemi Alade especially stand it, or she will return fire for fire? Or will it be Seyi Shay, Cynthia Morgan or even some unexpected female artist that will actually be the standout female artist of 2016? We’ll know soon enough.

Juliet Ibrahim introduces breast dancing

Juliet Ibrahim is currently on an upward swing. She’s making the news without any real effort seemingly. Last week, she was all over the news courtesy of Sonia Morales, the Colombian wife of IK Ogbonna, who thanked her (Ibrahim) for dumping Ogbonna and not taking him back even when he begged her to, thereby paving the way for her, Morales, to meet and marry him. Last week likewise, Ibrahim released her latest music video, Celebrate, and it’s already making the rounds. With Celebrate’s release, it has become obvious that indeed has her heart set on achieving success as a singer. Already, many of her acting colleagues have tried music and failed woefully, but she has always insisted that music is her first love and she proves with Celebrate’s release that her statement is not a frivolous one. Anyway, one of her dance moves in Celebrate might just become the rage if she can really expose it to the world. In the dance move in question, she makes her breasts dance, wiggle, shake, whatever,
