Leah Sharibu: Buhari administration making empty promises -CitizenGO

Sadly, many Nigerians have probably forgotten about Leah Sharibu (pictured) who was one of the girls abducted by Boko Haram in Dapchi in the northern part of Nigeria but wasn’t released when other girls kidnapped with her were because of her refusal to renounce her Christian faith.

So, it can be said Nigerians have forgotten about her cause she isn’t making the news on a daily basis as she should.

But the international human rights non-governmental organization, CitizenGO, hasn’t forgotten about her, and intends to keep harping on her issue, as evident in its latest letter below.

Dear Oseyiza,

Happy new year greetings!

I hope you begun your year well and that you are energized for yet another successful and busy year! I would really want to thank you particularly for being so supportive in the entire of 2018. Your signature, sharing of petitions and request for us to write petitions that affected your country really made our year tick and we were able to accomplish so much. We had victories, losses and some of the campaigns are still ongoing. But what is important is that we are changing the society and preserving the very vital institutions that make us: family, life and religion.

I would like to call upon you to fasten your seat belt for 2019 will be so much busier. As we grow and expand, so does our work. But this means more work is likely to be accomplished.

Dear Oseyiza, I cannot do this alone, I will need you to sign petitions, share them and most importantly be our champion in your country and in your area of influence.

Last year, one of the most significant campaigns that we did was that on young persecuted Leah Sharibu who spent her Christmas in the captivity of Boko Haram.

If you remember, I traveled all the way to the risky north-eastern Nigeria, to Dapchi village to deliver your signatures to Leah's parents after which I travelled to Abuja to deliver the same to President Muhammadu Buhari's office. Later on, we filed a law suit at the ECOWAS law courts in Abuja.

The government of Nigeria has continued to make empty promises about releasing Leah and to date there is no significant progress. Her mother whom I am constantly in touch with has asked everyone to continue praying for the safety of her daughter whose life remains to be in danger as long as she is in the captivity Boko Haram insurgents.

As we begin the year, I would like to call upon you to freshly share this petition demanding the release of Leah Sharibu and to keep her in your prayers. The petition is now signed by a record 212,000 people. Please also SIGN if you have not yet.

CitizenGO continues to champion for religious freedom worldwide and we hope that young Leah will be freed soon. My director Caroline has also written to you about CitizenGO's quest to move Asia Bibi, a woman who is also suffering for her faith, from Pakistan to a safer country.

We will keep sending you more and more petitions on issues affecting you and your neighbor. We count on your support and all the 10 million Citizengoers to make a change in the world.

Thank you so much and hoping to walk this year again with you! Once again, happy and prosperous 2019, Oseyiza!

Sincerely,

Ann Kioko and the entire CitizenGO team
