Guardiola endorses Solskjaer sack

One of the hottest issues in football presently is if the current manager of one of the world’s biggest football clubs, Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, should be sacked as he doesn’t seem to be getting the appropriate results for the club.

United began the current season, 2019/2020, well with an emphatic victory over Chelsea on opening day. But since that promising win, they’ve been dogged by inconsistent results.

Most flabbergasting has been that they’ve done commendably against the elite teams in the English Premier League which is their home league but quite poorly against most of the league’s low level teams.

This inability to do well against the small clubs is what can be said to be the basic factor that makes many people take up arms against Solskjaer as it’s a no-brainer that if a club can get positive results against big clubs, then it definitely should against small clubs.

Gradually, those who want Solskjaer sacked are getting the upper hand in their agitation. Factors that have helped him retain his job include that the club’s former players have not really been speaking against him because they played alongside him, they genuinely want him to succeed and he’s actually a United legend as his goal it was that won United its second ever UEFA Champions League trophy back in 1999.

But former player Robin van Persie has spoken out against him and justifiably so, questioning why a manager who lost a match would be laughing in his post-match interview like Solskjaer did after losing embarrassingly by two goals to nil to Arsenal on New Year Day, January 1, 2020.

Though he’s yet to go on a really poor run of results which is what ultimately gets managers sacked, that poor run is always seeming to be around the corner for United and many people don’t even want to see it so prefer that he’s axed on time.

And in defence of such people clamouring for his head, clubs like Everton, Watford, West Ham, Arsenal that have sacked and replaced their managers have had a turnaround in their fortunes.

And it would be the same case for United if they did so too as even Solskjaer came in during December 2018 to replace Jose Mourinho who was on a very poor run and the future didn’t seem to be bright with him.

Funny enough, when he came in initially and was under probation as a caretaker, he did very well, winning about fourteen consecutive matches that got him a permanent three-year contract and immediately he signed the contract, his results began to go from bad to worse.

Now, one of football’s brightest boys, Josep Guardiola, coach of United’s local rivals, Manchester City, has told them, albeit indirectly, that Solskjaer can’t deliver the goods for them.

Speaking at his pre-match conference ahead of the first leg of the semi-final Carabao Cup tie between United and City on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, Guardiola said United should believe in Solskjaer and give him time to take United back to its glory days under its greatest coach ever, Sir Alex Ferguson.

Guardiola’s support of Solskjaer is so phony that it’s quite apparent. In canvassing for Solskjaer, Guardiola is actually fighting for himself. He’s well aware that if United has a manager that doesn’t have the ability to succeed, it makes his own job much easier.

United is one of the clubs that should pose a challenge to City every season in every competition and if they can’t do so because of an incompetent manager, all the best for Guardiola and City.

Note: As proof that Guardiola only wants Solskjaer in the United job so that United will remain weak, his team easily won United 1-3 at United’s Old Trafford Stadium in the first leg of the Carabao Cup. If United were to sign either of the managers Mauricio Pochettino or Massimiliano Allegri, life would become much harder for Guardiola and City that easily won all the domestic cups on offer for the 2018/2019 season, a feat that wouldn’t be possible if United had a competent manager.
