CitizenGo update letter on Pakistan Christian persecution, Asia Bibi

Human rights non-governmental organization, CitizenGo, has sent out its latest letter on the Pakistan situation regarding the persecution of Christians and the trending case of Asia Bibi.

Below is the letter which is quite concise.

Dear Oseyiza,

The new year has just begun! We hope your new year will be full of joy and security, and we pray the same for Asia Bibi.

Unfortunately, Asia Bibi is still in Pakistan. We know that she is currently in a safe place, protected by the Pakistani Army.

At CitizenGO, we are doing everything in our power to ensure Asia Bibi’s escape from this volatile situation. The situation is not simple, as we told you in a previous email, but we pray that Asia Bibi will be allowed to leave Pakistan soon.

I wish I could give you more details about Asia's situation, but for security reasons I cannot share more information. I sincerely hope to celebrate good news with you—and with all who have helped to liberate Asia Bibi—in the near future.

I can share that we just received some good news from Pakistan. More than 500 Islamic preachers recently signed the "Islamabad Declaration" against terrorism, violence in the name of religion, and fatwas (a Muslim Mufti interpretation enacted indiscriminately by radical ulemas). This is good news not only for persecuted Christians, but also for groups considered to be "infidels" such as Ahmadi and Shiites.

The declaration also contains a reference to Asia Bibi!I’m also happy to report that, thanks to committed supporters like you, we we were able to bring hope to hundreds of persecuted Christian families in Pakistan. We helped distribute food and presents to these families on Christmas Eve.

More than 600 food parcels were delivered in collaboration with Father Morris Jalal, a Capuchin priest, who bought and distributed the food in the city of Lahore. Five trucks were needed to haul all the food!

More bags of food were delivered to Christian communities in the town of Brick Kiln, west of Lahore. Brick Kiln is a very poor community known for bonded labor.

Seeing so many hopeful people encourages us to continue to fight for persecuted Christians in Pakistan and around the world. We want to speak out for Christians like Asia Bibi and her family. These Christians simply want to live a dignified life, free from harassment and persecution.

Once again, we want to thank you. Without you, and the more than 10 million subscribers that make up CitizenGO, none of this would have been possible.

We pray that 2019 will be a year of victories for life, family, and freedom.

P.S. We recently launched a political pressure campaign aimed at some of the world’s most influential leaders. We are asking Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to take steps to allow Asia Bibi to leave the country and fly to a safe place.

We also asked United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, US President Donald Trump, and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini to pressure Khan with all available diplomatic tools.

Furthermore, we published ads in some of the world’s most important newspapers, such as The Daily Telegraph, The Washington Post, and Die Welt.

We know that Asia Bibi is out of jail, but she is still not completely safe in Pakistan.
