Help! Higher education needs a free labor market to save it from itself

I had always wondered why the Nigerian higher education system seems to be a mess.

After a time, based on the fact that the higher education institutions would gloat that a certain number of people sought admission, but it was only a certain lesser number that they admitted, I began to realize that the problem with the Nigerian higher education system was that they controlled the labor market hence their flabbergasting pride in not admitting those that want to study.

And this misplaced pride is all the more obnoxious because education should be a right for everyone.

As a matter of fact, it should be the higher education system pushing for everyone to get educated.

The reverse is the case, though, as what you have is the system itself being the one introducing unnecessary obstacles to get higher education.

This shows that they are assured of their relevance because of their control of the labor market so they can afford to do as they like.

And over time, this monopolistic relevance has made them worse as is always the case when control of something is located in one place.

The controller is no longer able to innovate because whatever they decide is what must be accepted and that is why the Nigerian higher education system is in a mess.

And when I finally got to know recently that the higher education system of the West which used to be the pride of the world has also been compromised greatly, I realized that it’s also part of why the Nigerian higher education system is also having its own myriad issues, as those of the West that controls the global higher education system, trickle down to Nigeria’s.

And just like for Nigeria’s, I also realized that the West’s higher education system is also having issues because it also controls the labor market as its graduates are the ones that are considered for the best jobs and some jobs even have a requirement for graduates even when non-graduates can easily do those jobs.

And just like the Nigerian higher education system proudly gloats about admitting just a fraction of the people seeking admission, the West’s also does and their global pride in this obnoxious achievement makes it very obvious that the system is indeed getting worse because the whole purpose of higher education is to make things better yet they can’t solve this extremely simple problem of admitting all those that apply for admission.

It’s not just flabbergasting but downright diabolical that after decades, they still can’t find the extremely simple solution to this problem.

So it’s symbolic of the overall problems in the sector that are just so annoying and frustrating because this great invention, higher education, which is supposed to make the world far better is actually making it extremely worse now because of its unjust control of the labor market through its sinister agreements with governments.

So, considering that its monopoly of the labor market is only making it and the world worse, it’s really about time that the labor market is made into a free one that will ensure the necessary competition that will correct the rot infecting the higher education system.
