Elishama Ideh: Trying to save Nigeria
Nigeria’s problems have thrown up
many people who are trying their best to solve them. Evangelist Elishama Ideh
is one of such people and she initiated the Partnership For A New Nigeria
(PFANN) for that reason.
“PFANN’s only goal is to make
Nigeria a better nation by advocating and sensitising Nigerians on the need to
live righteously, purposefully and selflessly for the betterment of all and the
nation.”
Presently, PFANN is very
concerned about the incessant spate of church bombings and overall insecurity
in the nation. Worriedly, Ideh said, “As soon as a bomb goes off, those in
authority say they are on top of the situation. But the question remains why they
are always on top of the situation only after the bombs have gone off and
precious lives and property lost?
“Indeed, the only way to show
that they are on top of the situation is to prevent more bombs from exploding,
or arrest and bring to justice all those perpetrating these evil acts.”
Declaring that the country is
descending into anarchy, she said, “The truth is that the Church has failed and
abdicated her primary responsibility of setting the people on the right path so
God is angry. And because God is angry, He has allowed the enemy to deal with
his children with a view to bringing them back to their senses.”
Insisting that “God is really
angry with us for the constant unnecessary spilling of blood in the country,”
she added that “the terrorists are not really the problem but the fact that we
have all failed in our individual callings so we all have to rise up now and
pray to God with one voice to prevent the country from slipping into anarchy. We
all have to go to God and ask for forgiveness for all our sins or else the
bombings that started as a joke will put Nigeria in a state of anarchy.”
Apart from praying for the nation
as the solution to the insecurity and terrorism problems, Ideh said the value
system has also disintegrated and it has to be restored for there to be
progress. “Nigeria is the most prayerful nation in the world but without
stopping our wicked ways and towing the path of righteousness, we will keep
having the problems we have.”
Still proffering solutions to the
country’s problems, she said, “Though it’s painful to lose the lives we are
doing to the bombings, reprisal is not the solution, so no violence. Rather we
should protest peacefully. We should let the government know that if they do
not solve the issue of suicide bombings, we’ll sit at home.”
She concluded that “in the
absence of peace, there can be no prosperity of any kind. So for peace to
return to the Church and the Nigerian nation, the Church leadership should lead
the entire Christian community to cry to God, repent and plead for forgiveness
on account of the innocent blood that has been spilled.
“President Jonathan should also
declare three days of national prayer and fasting throughout the country and
the peace that has eluded this country will return.”
