Nigerian musicians receive bad news from America

Probably every Nigerian musician will not be enamoured with the news that just came from America and is still spreading. The basic gist of the news is that music promoters who promote Nigerian music and musicians in America are not happy at what they are being charged by Nigerian artists to come and perform in America as they don’t make any profit from such shows. To this end, the promoters have decided to blacklist any musician whom they feel is not ready to play ball with them. If you’re such a musician, tread softly, softly oh. While some musicians who have benefitted from such promotion in the past will be scared right now at the prospect of not being taken abroad again for shows, musicians who have never been promoted abroad will be hopeful that they might be considered now. Musicians who have travelled abroad to perform include P-Square, MC Galaxy, 2face, D’Banj and Wande Coal.

Yemi Alade faces fire in Germany

Last weekend is not one that Johnny singer Yemi Alade will forget in a hurry, or ever forget for that matter. The currently hot and in demand Tangerine singer was in Berlin, Germany to perform but she got the shock of her life when she got to the venue only to find out that most of the audience had gone and those who were left were supposedly angry with her for being late. But trying to clear afterwards, especially as she didn’t get to perform at all, she explained that she got to the show venue just thirty minutes after her scheduled time, but she didn’t know that the audience had actually been waiting for four hours.

Waje sets the pace for sexy and naughty girls

With Nigerian female singers, actresses and other female entertainers continuously towing the path of their American counterparts like Madonna and Nicki Minaj who rely heavily on a sexy and naughty image to make a way for themselves, Oseyiza Oogbodo Blog can authoritatively tell you that Onye singer Waje is holding her own when it comes to being sexy and naughty. Though her competition is stiff, especially from Tiwa Savage, as well as Seyi Shay, Yemi Alade, Cynthia Morgan and many others, Waje is a contender for the leader of the pack as exemplified by her pictures. Don’t you think so too?

What I’ll do with my N50m WWTBAM cash prize –Omotola Akinsola

Omotola Akinsola became a celebrity in December 2014 when she won the whopping sum of N50m on the popular TV game show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Now, she has received her cheque for N50m and she told OSEYIZA OOGBODO BLOG about her plans for it. What was your first target, what amount was initially in your mind that you wanted to win on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? When I was in the studio and they asked me how much I wanted to win, I said at least five million. But you won N50m. How do you feel about that? I’m really grateful, because I thought about it, that if I were to work in Nigeria, how long would it take me to make up to that amount of money? It would be like twenty years or more if I were to work honestly. You were supposed to get a house worth N50m. Why did you decide to receive cash instead of the house? Well, it’s not as if I had an option. The organizers called me and said that after thinking back and forth, they thought it’s better if I have the mone

Rukky Sanda battered on Instagram

Glamorous actress Rukky Sanda has been quiet for quite some time now. But she surfaced in the news this week after she altercated with some of her fans on the popular social media network, Instagram. Like most altercations, it began innocently with Sanda posting a picture of herself to let the world know that she is on holiday in the United States of America. And in the picture, she looked slimmer than she’s known to be and immediately, her fans jumped on her back, commenting that she looked better when she had more flesh on her body and that whatever she was taking or doing to lose weight wasn’t good for her. Sanda however wasn’t ready to take undue criticism lying down and she gave back as good as she got. Since Sanda is not the first celebrity that will get into an unnecessary social media fight, we wonder when celebrities will finally learn the proper use of social media in order to save themselves the indignity of dirty fighting online.

I remain AGN President -Ibinabo Fiberesima

One entertainment body that continues to be in the spotlight in the country for several reasons, both good and bad, is the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). While it has always been rocked by crises, since Ibinabo Fiberesima became its first female president a couple of years ago, it has been relatively stable. Though her leadership has also had its challenges, with Clarion Chukwurah battling her hard last year for the coveted presidency, and others trying to run a parallel body, Fiberesima has weathered all the storms that brewed. And it seems she’s in control again regarding the current storm brewing which stems from a court ruling last Monday that the election in which she emerged as AGN President was illegal. And through a press release that was released on her behalf, Fiberesima’s stance on the issue has been made known. “The President of Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima Egbuka, wishes to express her heartfelt appreciation to her members, Nollywood practitioner

Mavin Records crises update ... D’Prince dumps Don Jazzy

For some time now, it has been apparent that there are cracks in the Mavin Records family led by Don Jazzy. The cracks became noticeable with the rising success of Mavin’s hitherto unknown artists, Korede Bello, Reekado Banks and Di’Ja while their previously more popular labelmates, D’Prince and Dr SID are finding it difficult to sustain their success. In fact, the previously unknown Di’Ja, bello and Banks are taking so much of Jazzy’s time that he doesn’t really have much time again for his own blood brother, D’Prince. The songs he produced for D’Prince recently, Gentleman, OYO, Ojoro Cancel , have not performed to expectations unlike those he produced with all his passion back in the days, Omoba, Goody Bag, Take Banana. Anyway, D’Prince is not willing to just sit and watch while his own brother concentrates on helping others to success over him so he has released a new song, Nonso , and it wasn’t produced by Jazzy. Will he eventually leave Mavin as well? Well, never say n

Asa: Glorifying or condemning Satan?

One of the songs that are trending presently is Asa’s Satan Be Gone . It’s been quite some time that the Fire On The Mountain and Mr Jailer singer has had any of her songs trend this notably in the country. Though she keeps releasing songs, like Be My Man and Dead Again , which she released after her two biggest songs which were firstly mentioned here, they didn’t really quite connect with the Nigerian music loving public and promoters like her two biggest songs so far and in fact the majority of the songs on her debut album, Asa, did. But maybe because of its title and its lyrics, Satan Be Gone is being noted, and the release of its video recently has further helped it spread. And it is this video which is raising dust in some quarters. It is a current favourite on channels like Hip TV and Trace Urban so those who have access to satellite TV are getting a good dose of it. And in terms of technicalities, it is definitely flawless. It is however in terms of its plot that

Promising artists who are yet to get to the Promised Land

The music industry is full of established, promising and upcoming artists. The established ones are the most popular and most successful. The promising are those believed will eventually become established and the upcoming are the newcomers. Talking about the promising artists, they are very peculiar because they mostly remain promising and never become established. Artists are seen as promising when they’ve released one or two hit songs, performed at prestigious industry events and concerts and their name is buzzing on people’s lips and trending on social media. Once they’ve gotten to the promised stage, they are expected to go on to become established and those that don’t can be tagged as ‘promising artists who are yet to get to the Promised Land.’ Among them are Mo’ Cheddah, YQ, Soul E, Kween, Sheyman, Alabai, Sean Tero and many others. Many things have been expected of Mo’ Cheddah since she burst onto the scene about five years ago with If You Want Me. She was so hot then t

Eko Music Festival finally arrives

... Begins with beauty pageant photo shoot ... Endorsed by JJC, Waconzy ... Celebrity Walk Against Malaria, others, to come The Eko Music Festival was planned to be one of the biggest entertainment events in the country this year. Initially announced as holding in April, it was however postponed, and its chief promoter, Ayo George, of Gennie Leisure Inc., has disclosed that it is not holding this year after all. But as is the norm with people in the entertainment world, George is so full of self-belief in his vision that he explains sleekly that EMF’s postponement, basically as a result of technical hitches, to its new date of May 31 st , 2014, is in fact a good omen. “EMF will hold on a much grander scale on May 31 st next year. We had plans for it to hold this year in a big way in April, but while we were trying to perfect all the arrangements, lots of people were coming to us with various suggestions beyond the scope of our intentions so we realised we had to postpone

I'll live up to expectations -Yeka Onka

Yeka Onka is the first winner of Nigerian Idol. Her latest song, Me And You, is very hot presently. She told OSEYIZA OOGBODO BLOG about life after Idol. What’s the latest about you? I have been making progress in my plans. Yes, it hasn’t been as fast as everyone expected, due to some hitches which I’d rather not talk about now, so I’ve been taking it slow and steady. I’ve recorded plenty of songs with amazing producers and my new song, Me And You , is one of them so I have a lot of songs ready that I can keep releasing. I also have an all-girl band that backs me up for all my performances. I have a gig every Wednesday at Rhapsody, Ikeja City Mall, so I’m making progress and also getting better by the day. I hate to put the blame on people or anything and wallow in self pity. Success comes from God in due time. So whatever happens, whatever people do to weigh you down, when it’s your time, believe me, nothing can stop you. How has life been after Nigerian Idol ? Life has been

Reggae music is dead in only Lagos –Rymzo de Gusto

Rymzo de Gusto is one of Nigeria’s foremost reggae musicians. OSEYIZA OOGBODO BLOG met him recently and he spoke on many issues that his fans want to know about. You seem very silent nowadays. What’s going on? Yeah, I was away for some time, you know, but since I came back, I’m just chilling this year to start again next year. What do you mean by you were away? You travelled out? Yeah, you see the last time I was out there, that was 2008, and I got shot, some people tried to murder me, so when I had that experience, I just managed to continue the promo I was doing then, then after a while I had to back out from the scene and I left Nigeria. So when I came back, I’m just gathering my materials to launch myself out again next year. Where did you go to and when did you come back? I was in Vienna for a while. From there, I went to Jamaica, South Africa and I came back last year December. In all these places you went to, what were you doing? I was working, recording music,

How I deal with area boys -Mercy Aigbe

Mercy Aigbe doesn’t really need any introduction. She is one of the hottest actresses in the country, has starred in an uncountable number of movies and has made the news for both professional and personal reasons. OSEYIZA OOGBODO BLOG tasked her on the secret of her success. It’s very difficult to become a truly successful actress. What did you do to make it? I won’t say it’s my own making. I will say it’s the grace of God Almighty, because the Bible says that your talent shall make a way for you. And I believe that acting is the talent God gave me, so I stood upon that Word, so I put my God before everything I do, then also hard work, professionalism and discipline, I can say they are the things I’m doing to get to where I’m going to. But what’s actually taking me to where I’m going to, I can say categorically is the grace of God Almighty. Apart from the grace of God, which is on everyone, we’ve heard tales of actresses who paid producers to feature them in movies and others

I don’t criticise you, don’t criticise me –Beverly Osu

Beverly Osu is now one of the biggest celebrities in the country. Before participating in this year’s edition of Big Brother Africa, a participation which made her into an international star, she was relatively well-known in Nigeria as a model and video vixen. OSEYIZA OOGBODO BLOG spoke with her recently. How is life after Big Brother ? I have to say it’s beautiful. Many good things are coming my way. I am usually a very busy person, so it’s nothing I can’t handle. How do you feel about your controversial image due to your BBA participation? There is a negative side to everything in life. It is not everything people say about you that is true, so I don’t really think about it or allow it to affect me. Are you sorry about your widely criticised actions in Big Brother ? Well, I don’t feel sorry because I was being myself. So, I can’t say sorry to anyone who feels disappointed. They’re living their lives and I’m living mine. The only difference is that I was in a house wher

Mariah Carey - Hero lyrics

Verse 1 There's a hero If you look inside your heart You don't have to be afraid Of what you are There's an answer If you reach into your soul And the sorrow that you know Will melt away Chorus And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you Verse 2 It's a long road When you face the world alone No one reaches out a hand For you to hold You can find love If you search within yourself And the emptiness you felt Will disappear Chorus Bridge Lord knows Dreams are hard to follow But don't let anyone Tear them away Hold on There will be tomorrow In time You'll find the way Chorus

Asa - Fire On The Mountain lyrics

Chorus There is fire on the mountain And nobody seems to be on the run Oh there is fire on the mountain top And no one is a-running Verse 1 I wake up in the morning Tell you what I see on my TV screen I see the blood of an innocent child And everybody’s watching Now I’m looking out my window And what do I see I see an army of a soldier man Marching across the street Hey Mr Soldier Man Tomorrow is the day you go to war But you are fighting for another man’s cause And you don’t even know him What did he say to make you so blind To your conscience and reason Could it be love for your country Or for the gun you use in killing Repeat chorus Verse 2 He Mr Lover Man Can I get a chance to talk to you Cause you are fooling with a dead man’s corpse And you don’t know what you do So you say you have a lover And you love her like no other So you buy her a diamond That someone has died on Don’t you think there’s something wrong with t
