Fuck The Headies and Ayo Animashaun -Vic O

Following the release of its list of its nominees this year, The Headies, founded by Ayo Animashaun, has been attacked by Iyanya’s manager, Ubi Franklin, and extremely ambitious rapper, Vic O. Both Franklin and Vic O didn’t bother to mince words when castigating The Headies over the fact that Iyanya, DJ Coublon and Vic O were not nominated in any category. Through Twitter, they came at the awards and its founder. While Franklin was a bit diplomatic, but nevertheless drove his point home, Vic O was expletive all the way. According to Franklin, Coublon shoud have been nominated because he produced many smash hits in the year under review. Some of the hits are Woju, Laye, Applaudise and Duro. While Coublon was the first person he spoke out for, he ended by speaking for Iyanya as well, declaring that Iyanya’s Mr Oreo should have been nominated as well. In the same vein, Vic O claimed that he should have been nominated as well and that his non-nomination is unfair because he scored many hit

Can Road To Yesterday save Genevieve's acting career?

The title of Genevieve’s movie, Road To Yesterday, is apt for many reasons. Though it’s just another title to many people, to Genevieve herself, the title must mean a lot. ‘Road to yesterday’ is a very poetic expression. What does it mean? You don’t have to have the intelligence of William Shakespeare of T S Elliot to understand what this expression means to one of Africa’s most respected actresses, Genevieve. The meaning is quite clear and succinct. Genevieve is seeking the path back to yesterday. Yesterday, which stands for the past, she was one of Nigeria’s most sought after actresses. She was in demand, the fans were numerous, people couldn’t get enough of her. Today, which stands for now, the present, she’s no longer that hot property she was. Producers are no longer begging her to bless their movies with just even one scene of her presence. She’s still respected and still relevant to an extent, but that’s all due to past achievements. And the thing about experiencing stardom at

Project Fame sends finalists forth with celebrity-featured smash hits

The best way to describe this year’s edition of Project Fame West Africa, the eight annual consecutive edition, is to say that it has surpassed all previous editions. All along, this has been the strength of PFWA. Each edition is better than all those before it. Each edition springs surprises that those before it didn’t. Each edition produces a set of talented music artists that end up making a vital contribution to the music industry. And this year’s PFWA, which ended last week, has produced the fine boy, Jeffrey, as its winner, and enhanced him with N5m, an SUV and a recording contract worthy of his new superstar status. But the good thing about PFWA is that virtually all the contestants are winners, though the finalists are the biggest winners. So, while Jeffrey is the biggest winner, his fellow finalists too went home with considerable rewards. Pearl, second to Jefrrey, got N3m and a brand new saloon car. Anderson, third, got N2m and a saloon as well. Ada, fourth, got N2m; Arewa, f

Rapper OG goes the Hallelujah way

Following the release of his Successful tune which came through with a video just some weeks back, Rapper OG, who'd earlier billed the release of his follow-up number, Hallelujah, for the month of October, has lifted the waiting time of the release as he lets out the AlienFly-directed visuals to the tune. Rapper OG (with OG meaning originality) is an unsigned artiste based in Abuja, and the fast-rising entertainer with a story of sheer determination or what we would aptly term as absolute purpose, is utterly brewed with diligence and powerfully impressive talent. The visuals for Hallelujah, shot on location in Abuja and directed by AlienFly, is passably of high standards for an indie act, and the visuals depict an apodeictic nature of the Hallelujah song which speaks of victory. This visual comes ahead of his Sunshine But Unsigned (Crossroads) mixtape project which is currently in the works.

Halt planned privatization of water in Ogun State, groups tell Amosun

Plans by the Ogun State Government to privatize water through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model promoted by the World Bank is a recipe to enslave citizens of the state and generations yet unborn, the Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN) and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) have alerted. The ERA/FoEN and AUPCTRE insist that no consultation was made, neither was there input from civil society and the labour unions in all the stages that got the bill to the table of Governor Ibikunle Amosun. The bill, awaiting his signature, is said to have speedily passed through the State House of Assembly on 13 May 2015.
