France, Portugal earn Europe's last automatic Russia ticket

Ronaldo France and Portugal booked their places at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ on the final day of Europe's group stage, with the pair earning comfortable wins to top Group A and B respectively. IOM providing emergency assistance to over 4,000 migrants in Sabratah, Libya

In the aftermath of weeks of conflict in the Libyan coastal city of Sabratah, at least 4,000 migrants, previously held in numerous informal detention centres and camps, have been transferred to a hangar in the city’s Dahman area, where IOM, the UN Migration Agency is providing emergency assistance. Sabratah is approximately 80 kilometres west of Tripoli and is one of the main departure points for migrant boats attempting to make the perilous journey across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.

Arab Cinema Center calls for submissions by Arab producers for Rotterdam Lab

As part of its strategy to promote Arab cinema on the international level, the Arab Cinema Center (ACC) will be part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) (January 24 - February 4) for the third year in a row.  In this context the ACC opens the call for submissions by Arab film producers for the Rotterdam Lab, through its official website: http://acc.film/rotterdamlab.php, from the 30th of September, 2017 to the end of October. The Rotterdam Lab will be held within the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

IDFA 2017 selection announced

The selection for the upcoming IDFA, which takes place for the 30th time in Amsterdam from 15 to 26 November, is now online. The program contains 312 titles (from 3,886 submissions), of which 90 documentaries will have their world premieres during the festival. A total of 44 Dutch productions are included in the program, spread across the various program sections. Fifteen of the films included in the program were realised with financial support from the IDFA Bertha Fund (IBF).

Bureau of Public Procurement inducted into FOI Hall of Shame

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) is the latest inductee in the Freedom of Information (FOI) Hall of Shame as Media Rights Agenda (MRA) upbraided it for its failure to implement the FOI Act, 2011 and enforce the transparency provisions in its own enabling law, the Public Procurement Act (PPA), 2007. In a statement in Lagos, MRA noted that besides the duties and obligations which the BPP has as a public institution to which to the FOI Act applies, as a “procuring entity” and the regulatory agency for public procurements, the BPP is also given general and specific responsibilities under the PPA to ensure transparency in public contracting processes.

Responding, he said, “Let me just put it simply. I love what I do. As long as it makes me happy, I go for it. I started with music, went into acting, and I’m also a professional broadcaster.
