Why I left NTA for OGTV –Ayinde Soaga

Ayinde Soaga is one face that many viewers of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) must have missed since he left the station to become the General Manager of Ogun State Television in 2011. In this interview with SAKIBU OLOKOJOBI, the broadcaster speaks on his achievement in office so far and what leaving NTA for OGTV means to him, among other things. For how long have you been at the helm of affairs at the Ogun State Television (OGTV) and how did it come about? I joined OGTV on appointment by Senator Ibikunle Amosun when he was elected governor of Ogun State. He asked me to join in rebuilding Ogun State, particularly, in the area of television broadcasting. OGTV was the leader in broadcasting in Nigeria; many of those who are in broadcasting – modern day television – started from OGTV. Even right from the days of WNTV, OGTV was the leader. Many Nigerians recall the exploits of OGTV and he felt that OGTV was not occupying its rightful place, so, he felt bringing me in would en

Meet Boye Manni, new sensation

Boye Manni is the latest music sensation in town. According to him, he was influenced into music as a little boy by renowned artists like 2pac, Nas, Fela, KSA and Phil Collins amongst others. He thereby got addicted to music and started recording on any tape he came across. “Basically, I wanted to hear myself sing because I was tired of listening to others and my mom had to start hiding her cassettes so I won't record on them. Then I started writing my own songs and sang them to the delight of my sisters," he recalled. When he got into high school, he started freestyle rap battles with friends. “One of my friends then encouraged me to specialize in singing rather than combining singing and rapping.” And when he got admitted into Ibadan Poly, he began performing on campus and soon became popular without having a demo. In 2011, he decided to take a shot at the reality show, Star Quest, and made it into the second round. He was spurred on by the words of music icon, Paul Play, w

Irresponsibility? ... Peter Okoye misadvices Emmanuel Adebayor

The crises in the P-Square family have been well documented recently. In fact, as it is right now, things are not yet settled in the family. One of the key players in the crises is Peter, one-half of the duo, P-Square. His actions, especially taking on solo projects that involve P-Square, continue to indicate to the music loving public, that all is not well with P-Square. Yet, with P-Square in crises of its own, Peter has deemed it fit to wade into another family’s crises, without taking care of his own first. And the person in family crises whom he deemed to advice with words that can turn that person against his family is one of Africa’s current most successful footballers, Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo. For some time now, Adebayor has been in a running battle with his mother and siblings and accusations and counter-accusations have been flying back and forth between them that they are plotting evil against him despite all he has done and they too have been saying he’s ungrateful and all

Ogbono soup lands Dr SID in hot soup

When rapper-turned-singer Dr SID did a song and titled it Chop Ogbono, ogbono being the name of a soup, little did he guess that the song would literally land him in hot soup. But that is what has happened, as the remix of the song, which features hot rapper, Olamide, is being severely bashed online subsequent to the release of its video. The comments did not spare Dr SID whom, despite having recorded a number of smash hits that include Pop Champagne and Surulere, was told that he doesn’t know how to sing and that his main backer in music, Don Jazzy, is just wasting his time on him. Dr SID just didn’t sit back and let the comments pass by, though. He came back at those who commented, but in a diplomatic way and tried to make light of the situation. One thing is obvious from Dr SID’s online saga. With Mavin Records, his label, now having really fresh new talents in the likes of Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and Di’Ja that people are preferring more at this point in time, Mavin’s older art

Now, she has released a new sexy picture of herself and her enormous back tattoo, it’s got people talking about her again. Thanks to social media, it’s not until you feature in movies or sing a smash hit no before you can be a star. Once you can release salacious pictures that will get people talking, are you not a star? Go, Rukky.

Mursty Adinoyi advices Nigerians to be givers

TV presenter-producer, Mursty Adinoyi, has adviced Nigerians to be givers. According to him, life is all about giving, and he has learnt this firsthand courtesy of his TV Programme, Hitlist N Cruzin. “Hitlist N Cruzin has opened my horizons,” he told E-News. “It has made me see that life is about giving. I once took somebody on cruising, one Ibo guy like that, in Lagos here, and a week after the cruise, the guy called me from Asia that he’s so-so person, he’s the one I cruised last week, do I remember him, he’s in Asia, he’s a business guy, what would I want him to buy for me. “This guy bought me a camera worth N300,000. How much did we spend on taking this guy on cruising? N20,000. So it makes you know that you giving does not make you better than the person you’re giving to. And that experience was so profound to me that till tomorrow, it keeps me going on. Hitlist N Cruzin is not better than anybody we cruise on the show. Someone we cruised bought me camera of N300,000. So what I’v

Alhaja Liz Anjorin in husband snatching mess

Ever since notable actress Liz Anjorin converted from whatever religion she was practicing before to Islam, it’s been like issues galore for her. Not long after her conversion to Islam which led her to Mecca and she became an Alhaja, photos of her surfaced online in a bikini on the beach, and not a few people wondered if it was behavior appropriate of an Alhaja. While the bikini episode can be said to be a relatively minor issue, the current issue trailing her is not, and if care is not taken, might taint her image forever. According to a release by her publicist, she has been accused of snatching another woman’s husband in London to the extent that the man drove his heavily pregnant wife from their London home so that Alhaja Liz could be comfortable and feel free in the house. How competition affects artists on artist-owned record labels

There is no doubt that Kcee and Harrysong have been beneficial to each other. Harrysong it was who composed Limpopo that Kcee recorded to tremendous success. And in appreciation, Kcee signed him to his record label, Five Star Music, and takes him around to his shows and other engagements and he has thereby enjoyed the sort of popularity he hasn’t since he’s been in music. But being on the same label and competitors as well is definitely not an easy thing. Harrysong has always been deemed to be promising. He’s a producer, songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and voice coach. Proof that greatness resides in him is that he penned the monster hit, Limpopo, the implication of which is that he can write another successful song like Limpopo. There is also the implication that he can eventually be more successful than Kcee whom has always been criticised as not being a really good musician and only earned some little music respect courtesy of Limpopo . So it can be said that Kcee is subt

Last week, sexy actress Yvonne Nelson was crying over the fact that she doesn’t have a man she can call her own. This week, however, what she’s crying about is that her home country, Ghana, has started experiencing power outages it wasn’t before. And truly, one of the things that have stood Ghana out in recent times is that it has uninterrupted daily power supply and it even celebrated ten years of uninterrupted power supply not too long ago. But it seems Ghana has regressed in its electricity achievements as two of its top celebrities, Nelson, and Sarkodie, a rapper, have now gotten so tired of the power outages to the extent that they’ve planned a protest against it. In a letter addressed to the Regional Commander, Ghana Police Service, Greater Accra Region, Accra, and titled ‘Notice of a Special Event - #DumsorMustStop Vigil,’ and signed by their lawyers, Nana Akwasi Awuah, and Kofi Bentil, the lawyers made it known that Nelson and Sarkodie want to stage a protest against epileptic
