The Crystal Awards, which is regarded as Nigeria’s top gospel music awards, has announced the nominees for its third edition which will hold later this year. The nominees were made known to the world during a nominations party which held last weekend. Unsurprisingly, top gospel artists like Frank Edwards, Sammie Okposo, Nikki Laoye, Tim Godfrey, Lara George, Mike Abdul, Nosa and others were among the nominees, as well as upcoming gospel artists like Gospel Force Naija, Eno Michael and Gil Joe. The 25 categories they were nominated in are Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Male Vocalist, Best Female Vocalist, Best Praise Song, Best Worship Song, Best Group or Duo, Best Rap/Hip-Hop, Best Choir, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Video, Best Traditional Gospel, Best Producer, Best Reggae, Bet Video Director, BEST On-Air Personality, Best Male Artist in Diaspora, Best Female Artist in Diaspora, Best Rock, Best Use of Instruments, Comedian of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Urban/Instrumental and Best Online Radio. Apart from the best reggae category which has five nominees, every other category has six nominees each. And speaking about Crystal Awards 2015, its founder, Timi Adegoke said this year’s nominees were not voted for, but were chosen by a nomination committee and that the winners will also be chosen, not voted for, and that’s why they can’t reveal the names of the people on the committees so that none of the artists can go and start meeting them to influence them to choose him, her as a winner.
