My latest album will shake Nigeria –Yomi Peters

Juju maestro, Yomi Peters, needs little or no introduction. The multi-instrumentalist, who has spent a good part of his life in the United States of America and relocated to Nigeria some years back with the sole aim of redefining juju music with his new dimensional juju music, tells OSEYIZA OOGBODO BLOG his latest plans, speaking glowingly of his latest album, Igbeyawo. You are about releasing your latest album, Igbeyawo. What is your expectation for it? I’m very optimistic that it will be evergreen after the release. And my teeming fans will so much like every bit of the video because we took our time to research and produce this juju music in another dimension that is second to none in the industry. It has African flavour and is specially made for every couple and happy homes. Tell us about its video and who you featured in it. It was shot at choice locations around Lagos, including Allen Avenue, Victoria Garden City and Lekki. In Igbeyawo, asides featuring Buga of Buga fame, prominent movie stars such as Babatunde Omidina, otherwise known as Baba Suwe, Bisi Ibidapo-Ope and others made cameo appearances. Why has it taken you so long to come up with this album? There were a lot of challenges in the course of releasing the album. We even tried to push it to the market in December, but it was quite unfortunate that we were unable to come out as we planned. We however give glory to God. By God's grace, it will be released any moment from now. Who is handling the marketing and distribution of the album? There are lots of marketers who have picked interest to market the job after seeing the video, but we want to take our time and select the trusted and tested one among them. And we have also thrown it open to the public for anyone who has interest in the distribution. When precisely are you releasing it into the market? Any moment from now it will be released. Promotion has already started. It’s already on major radio stations across the country. Thereafter, we will officially launch it when everything has been put in place because we want every house to enjoy Yomi Peters during the Easter celebration. In fact, my fans in and outside Nigeria have been calling and sending mails asking me when the video will be released because they had thought that it would come out last December but we disappointed them. This time around, we would try our best not let them down. We really want them to feel the rhythm, beat and lyrics of the video. How will you rate your new album? I rate it so high following what we have been able to package to the delight of our fans. As I said earlier, it took us almost a year to do this. So you should expect something better and superb from Yomi Peters. It’s a full package of inspirational songs, which I believe many homes would like to have a copy when eventually released. Who are your target audience? It cuts across all the strata of the society. And especially couples and happy people. You will enjoy the album irrespective of your tribe. We actually took that decision to have a larger market. Juju music has gone beyond being a stereotype. How do you intend to come out? We will come out with a bang. As I am talking to you now, the audio is already running on major radio stations in Nigeria while the video is also gaining ground fast. Your words to your fans out there? I thank our fans across the world for the endless patience they have had for us towards the release of the video. We really appreciate them and their moral and financial support towards us. We assure them the album is ready and will be released soon into the market.
