IPC launches development charters for three Lagos communities

The International Press centre (IPC) has presented to the public its development charters for Erejuwa-Makoko, Otumara and Isale Iwaya communities in Lagos. The charters are the result of a project, Strengthening Citizens Engagement in Electoral Process (SCEEP), implemented by IPC with the support of ACTIONAID and UKAID from the Department for International Development. The launching, which held at the council of Lagos Mainland LGA, Oyingbo, Lagos, had Adeola Soetan, National Coordinator, Democracy Vanguard, as the guest speaker, and his keynote address was aptly titled Enhancing Grassroots Development: Integrating Community Stakeholders in Governance. Also in attendance were the Executive Secretary, Lagos Mainland LGA, Hon. Mrs. Essien Rashidah Omolola; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Community Development, Alhaji Tajudeen Adeniyi Quadri; Director of IPC, Mr. Lanre Arogundade; Damilola Babalola of UKAID/DFID; and sVanessa Edhebru of ACTIONAID. While speaking, Arogundade said the charters are to help government know how to develop the communities researched on as government alone cannot find out every community’s problems by itself. He added that the charters are very important as they will help government know exactly what the people in the communities need as requested by the people themselves.
