Petition seeks to halt Uganda children sacrifices

Many communities in Uganda have been allegedly gripped by fear and bewilderment from the potential threat of sacrifice, particularly of children.

In such communities, posters, billboards, and other alerts have been erected to warn children and their families about the danger of child sacrifice.

However, this has not been able to halt the practice of child sacrifice in total. Weak laws, and inadequate protection and prosecution, also persist.

The situation in Uganda is appalling!

We are losing children to rituals!

Child sacrifice has continued to threaten the security and wellbeing of children in Uganda. Recent years have seen a rise in the number of reported cases of kidnappings of vulnerable people in Uganda, many of them children, who are targeted for sacrificial purposes. This is a growing problem in urban areas, not only in rural districts.

The Africa Policy Centre based in Uganda Christian University, Emphasizing the sanctity of human life, Stressing the need to protect children from preventable acts leading to grievous bodily harm and death, Recognizing the inadequacy of the Witchcraft Act and the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act to prosecute cases of child sacrifice, Affirming the need for legislation to directly address the crime of child sacrifice, Recalling the graveness and extent of child sacrifice cases, reported and unreported, throughout the country of Uganda:

Calls upon the Ugandan Parliamentary Forum for Children to continue and complete the drafting process of The Prevention and Prohibition of Human Sacrifice and Harmful Practices Bill presented on November 24, 2017;

Urges the Ugandan Parliament to subsequently pass The Prevention and Prohibition of Human Sacrifice and Harmful Practices Bill to provide adequate legislation to prosecute cases of child sacrifice
