The Good Life serialization begins again

The alarm on the bedside bureau rang shrilly, persistently and woke Wilfred Uba up at exactly 6.30am. It was a Monday morning, and getting to the office punctually on the first day of the working week was the name of the game.

Apart from that even, the internal memo the boss issued last week reiterated clearly that more cargo ships were coming in this week and it should mean a lot of work for them as he expected them to get a lot of the ensuing work and thereby proceeds from clearing the cargoes.

Uba shut off the yapping machine. He had a hangover and knew he would only feel better after having a cold bath. If it was a morning he wasn’t going to the office early, he could have remedied the hangover by having a green bottle, but he was going to the office so that would be tactless.

Getting up reluctantly, with his mind constantly reminding him that the clock was ticking away fast if he wanted to get to the office on time, he saw his eyes were bloodshot and swollen in the large square mirror on the wall and memories of the previous day played back in his head and brought forth a slight smile to his face.

Yesterday was fun-filled for him as he and his latest girlfriend, Dupe Martins, had rollicked and frolicked about town all day. Dupe was a big girl that a man could count himself lucky to be dating, so whatever she wanted, Uba had to do it just to make her happy and prove he was worthy of being her man. And yesterday she had wanted what she termed a proper day out on the town.

The cost didn’t concern her, of course. That was Uba’s business. And so the day began when she arrived at his Tejuosho, Yaba pad first thing in the morning and they made love like two people who hadn’t done so in years; so hard Uba could have sworn his neighbours must have felt his bed creaking the brunt of their exertions.

Then they hit the town firstly with breakfast at a swanky restaurant, followed by Dupe showing him off to two of her classy friends who ended up having lunch with them at another swanky restaurant and accompanying them to the cinema as well to see the latest trending movie.

Then Dupe discharged her friends and they headed to the club where she was all over him with PDA, raunchy dancing, constant cooing into his ears that she had never loved anyone the way she loved him, dinner of course, and then ended up the day around 11.30pm with another steamy lovemaking session at her own apartment in the Iwaya side of Yaba from where he took a late night commercial motorcycle, popularly called okada, to Tolu, Ajegunle where he had his main apartment because it was closer to his office.

He was only able to lock his door and most importantly, set his alarm clock before he fell onto his bed after barely unhitching himself of his clothes and shoes and was snatched into a deep sleep of the spent straight away.
