African Television finally berths in Nigeria
African Television, Africa’s
biggest TV station which started operations in the Netherlands on March 10,
2010, and has since commenced operations in some African countries that include
Uganda, Cameroon and South Africa is finally going to commence operations in
Nigeria which is the country of origin of its founder, Larry Omodia (pictured).
According to him, AFtv is just
going to begin operations in Nigeria this year 2019 because Nigeria is a
difficult market to enter.
While he gets operation licenses
extremely easy in other countries and for extremely affordable amounts, the reverse
is the opposite in Nigeria.
“AFtv could have been in Nigeria
earlier but the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission was asking for a hundred
million naira to issue us the license and I said if I pay you that, how do I
establish the company and they said TV stations make a lot of money and they
need their share. Suffice it to say that God’s time is always the best and when
God says the time is right for you to do something, that’s when you get it done
and that’s why we’re finally coming into the Nigerian market now.”
While Omodia is presently in
Europe, he’s represented in Nigeria by Dr David Lucas, Director of Operations,
AFtv Nigeria, and IfeChukwude Martyns-Etunum, Technical Director, AFtv Nigeria,
and the Nigeria broadcasting will begin later in the year on one of the cable
TV platforms.
