Taylor Swift burns Nigeria
Swift |
That’s a question begging to be
answered going by two scenes in her You
Need To Calm Down music video which portray a burning mobile home bearing the
green-white-green colours of the Nigerian flag.
Overall, the video, which she co-directed, co-executive produced, was to support
the LGBT movement and had scenes appropriately representing LGBTs. Nevertheless,
it has come under fire from some in the LGBT community who believe her support
is coming late and that she’s only trying to use it to market her upcoming
album, Lover.
With that said, why did she burn
the mobile home representing Nigeria in the video? Is it to get the video and the
song indirectly popular in Nigeria and thereby Africa through it being get
talked about negatively to make it trend as the negative comments from the LGBT
community can be said to have helped it somewhat?
Or is the burning an attack on
Nigeria for its anti-gay stance, knowing full well that if Nigeria supports
LGBTs, then the rest of Africa would find it easier to?
Or does she have another grouse
with Nigeria for a reason or more best known to her?
Over to you, Taylor. Tell us why
you decided to take on Nigeria with this action of yours.
She's not well.
