‘I’m proud to be Tinubu’s stooge’

Kayode Salako, husband of popular Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola, has currently found himself in an unpleasant place.

A believed die-hard supporter of the Nigeria President, Muhammadu Buhari, the ruling party, APC, and an ardent campaigner for the renowned political maestro, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for President in 2023, Salako is one man who’s seen it all, done it all, knows it all and cannot be easily boxed into a corner.

But even he finds himself between a rock and a hard place regarding the situation of the most popular activist in the country presently, Omoyele Sowore, who’s become a real thorn in the flesh of the ruling class that Salako is so proud of and defends so happily.

So, since Sowore was shockingly rearrested by the DSS on December 6, people sought Salako’s reaction. Below is the best he could do, and it’s just surprising of him as he couldn’t defend his beloved Buhari.

"People have been calling and inboxing me to hear what I have to say as a perceived die-hard Buharist on Sowore vs the DSS latest re-arrest issue, and I told them I suspended writing to comment on social issues weeks ago for my own personal reasons.
“But, not to completely abandon their expectations, I have this to say and it is the same way I said it on the radio programme I went for this morning (December 7).

“What governs democracy is the rule of law, not primarily the rule of the DSS or the rule of President Muhammadu Buhari. If you arrested a citizen for committing certain infractions against the laws of the land and you have any reason to take him to court under that 'rule of law' premise, then you have to allow the court to perform its own duty and do its job.

“Sowore has been taken to court, and so the DSS should allow the court to perform its duty.

“That is the way it should be under a normal and civilised democratic system.

“What I saw yesterday (December 6), when the 'President' I have so much regard for and his 'federal government' DSS were dragging it openly inside the courts the same way area boys drag it with their victims, when they are harassing them, was too low and crude for Nigeria.

“That modus operandi was disappointing!

“Nobody is saying Sowore has not committed an offence, but that modus operandi of the DSS I saw was too low, crude, primitive and unprofessional for the international image of the 21st century Nigeria.

“The DSS needs to urgently do something to refine some areas of its modus operandi and do more to polish the social orientation of some of the officers it trains or sends to carry out certain operations on its behalf, because I am not too sure, if the way those officers of the DSS carried out the yesterday Sowore and Bakare operation was the same way they were sent to carry it out.

“No sane DSS authority would send out its boys to go and operate crudely or raid the sanctity of the courts openly like that in any civilised society."

And he signed it with his name, Olukayode Salako, and the hashtag, #patriotsforTruthsAndStabilityInNigeria

Reacting to his commendable stance, someone said, “Tinubu's stooge is jittery already. The Law of Rule will soon get to his paymaster's turn.”

As said, Salako is a suave number with tons of media experience and he promptly replied to the jibe that he’s a Tinubu stooge that “proud to be one. That is the way of democracy. No matter how good a man is, he can't be loved by all and no matter how bad he is, he can’t be hated by all. Even the devil has fans and Jesus Christ has enemies.”
