IDFA Bertha Fund Classic calls specially for Ukraine documentary films

With support from the Open Society Foundation, the IDFA Bertha Fund has launched a special call for

documentary projects from Ukraine.

The application deadline is August 1.

In response to the war in Ukraine, the IDFA Bertha Fund has set up a temporary fund for the support of documentary projects by Ukrainian filmmakers.

The aim is to offer support to the film community and contribute to the continuity of documentary film production.

The war and its devastating consequences make it increasingly urgent to create a space for Ukrainian filmmakers to be heard.

With an emphasis on safeguarding such a space for Ukraine’s filmmakers, this call seeks to help capture and preserve their stories, reflections, and observations both now and into the future.

About the Ukraine Support fund

Eligible filmmakers can submit their documentary project in one of two categories:

Project development support (maximum contribution €7,500 per project)

Production & post-production support (maximum contribution €25,000 per project)

In addition to financing, the Fund will provide tailor-made support in areas such as creative process, strategy and networking, and safety and security based on the specific needs of each project in conversation with the filmmaking teams.

All selected director-producer teams will be invited to attend IDFA 2022.

With this call, the Fund aims to support 6 to 8 projects. A separate selection committee will meet at the beginning of September to evaluate all applications and make the final selection.

Application deadline: August 1, 2022.

Regulations

All regulations for the IDFA Bertha Fund Classic funding category apply, with the following additions for project eligibility:

All directors attached to the project must have Ukrainian nationality and must live and work in this country or be recently displaced.

For projects applying for (post-) production support: the main producer attached to the project must be based in Ukraine or be recently displaced.
