Mickey’s, a burger joint and students’ hangout, was packed with students, especially those of Slater Street and Purple Bow high schools.
Earlier, there had been a basketball game between the
two schools, and though Slater Street won, both their students had headed to
Mickey’s (naturally) afterward.
The Slater Street Streaks were seated at a table
celebrating their latest conquest. Tony Morris was with them. In the current
high school basketball season, he had played in all his team’s games and all
were victories, making it quite certain to almost every stakeholder that the
Streaks would come out tops come the season end.
Tony was bored. He didn’t let it show on his face,
though. Guys and babes were congratulating him and the others. Even the man who
was the brain behind Mickey’s treated them to burgers, hot dogs, fries and
Cokes on the house.
Tony kept a permanent grin on his face. He felt like
leaving, but he couldn’t just stand up and go.
A girl was suddenly at his back. She kissed him on
the cheek and rested her head on his shoulder. Tony knew her. Julie Bean. One of
his girls. She was also a Slater
Streeter, was in a halter top, hot pants and knee length boots. She was
desirable.
“You were marvelous, Tee,” she commended him.
He caught her hand in a suggestive caress. “It was
all for you, hon.”
Her eyes opened wide saucily. “Oh, Tee, you’re always
so flattering.”
“I’m serious, Juls. It was cos of you. I knew you
were watching, so I tried my best … to impress you.”
“You said that the last time too.”
“Oh! Did I?”
“Sure.”
