Upcoming artist blasts DJ Neptune ... ‘You DJs don’t support good music’

An upcoming artist has taken a swipe at DJ Neptune, saying, “Neptune, you don’t know what good music is and you don’t promote good music.” The artist, who prefers to remain anonymous, because he’s afraid there might be backlash on his fledgling career because Neptune is one of the top DJs in the country, said he’s coming down hard on Neptune because of his recent comment that Nigerian music lacks content. “I’m very angry that Neptune could have said something like that, because he should know better. He survives on Nigerian musicians, yet he feels he can just open his mouth anyhow and insult us.” Obviously angry, the artist continued that “it’s the DJs, Neptune included, working against the proper growth of the music industry. In America, people sing what they like and feel about and are therefore able to have the so-called content Neptune is talking about. “The case is however different in Nigeria. If you sing a sensible song and take it to Neptune and other DJs, they’ll tell you it’s dancehall people want, that people just want to dance, and for that sort of music, you don’t need to put any serious message. Yet the same Neptune who is one of those promoting senseless music can still turn around and say Nigerian music lacks content. “Without Nigerian musicians, where would he be? As a DJ, all he does is play music made by musicians. In other words, he feeds off the sweat of musicians, so he shouldn’t insult them. But I’m not surprised that he can speak like a parasite that feeds off its host and eventually destroys it, as most DJs now see themselves as gods because they are the ones who play the music we make. “Now, Neptune has complained about our music lacking content. But does he play good music? When an upcoming artist who cannot settle him but makes good music tries to give him his CD, will he even collect it, how much more play it? Wouldn’t he rather prefer senseless music made by someone who can give him money?” And in conclusion, the artist said, “No DJ has any right to to diss any musician. They should only advice musicians because they are the ones actually surviving on musicians, not the other way round.”
