Dazzling Mirage screening to promote sickle cell awareness

As part of activities to commemorate the 2015 World Sickle Cell Day, the Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria, in collaboration with Channels TV, Silverbird Group and Mainframe Productions, has organized free screenings of the epic movie, Dazzling Mirage, in Lagos and Abuja. According to SCFN, the movie is a different and more creative means of raising awareness and educating people about sickle cell disorder as what better way is there to educate people than through story telling? The 2014 drama film, produced and directed by Tunde Kelani, is an adaptation of a novel of the same name by Olayinka Abimbola Egbokhare. It weaves the story of a young lady with sickle cell disorder around the various medical, social and emotional challenges with which she is faced, anchored on a message of hope. Speaking further, SCFN said, “Nigerians need to know more about sickle cell because Nigeria is the country with the highest number of people with the condition in the world. Note that persons with sickle cell disorder, experts and dignitaries will be present at the screening and there will be opportunity for discussion on sickle cell before and after the movie.” While the first screening held at the Silverbird Galleria, Lagos during the week on Thursday, the remaining two will hold simultaneously by 2pm tomorrow at the National Sickle Cell Centre, Idi Araba, Lagos and at the Silverbird Cinemas, Central Business District, Abuja.
