The Nigerian Child Safety Report
Initiative has announced that the maiden edition of its awards dedicated to
celebrate children, The Nigerian Child Friendly Awards 2016/2017, will hold
next year February 12, 2017 at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.
Speaking about it, one of the organizers,
Ukhurebor Wilson, said TNCFA is all about the children so it was children who
came up with the nominees.
Disclosing that the preparations
for TNCFA began in August 2016, he added that in a category like Child Friendly
Bank which children might not be in the best position to know, they told them
to ask their parents in order to know which to nominate.
And that in the music category
which has nominees that include Olamide, Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, the children
nominated entertainers they liked best.
With fifty award categories up
for grabs, thirty for organisations/institutions, fifteen for individuals, and
five fir the media, TNCFA's coordinator, Tunde Jenmi, said the nominees
represent the wishes of children all over the nation and not just a particular
region as they went to three geo-political zones to engage children to choose
nominees and also created an online platform that was accessible to them for
their nominations wherever they are in Nigeria.
