Cheri Honkala wants to oust Donald Trump
A petition simply signed by The
People is backing Cheri Honkala for President of the United States in 2020.
Though impeachment and other removal clouds hang over Trump, the petition seems
to indicate that Trump will see out a first term but then the American public
should vote her in over him so he doesn’t get a second term.
Read the petition below.
“We the undersigned are tired of
politicians promising to drain the swamp only to find that they actually made
the old one bigger and muckier. We are fed up with a government that cares
nothing at all for the people it is supposed to protect. We are outraged by the
wanton disregard the current administration has shown for human rights and its
dangerously cavalier approach to foreign policy, the environment and social
justice.
“As such, we the undersigned are
presenting the following petition asking you to support Cheri Honkala as an
independent candidate for President of the United States in 2020.
“Given the state of the union and
the current occupant of the White House, we feel the time for a compassionate
and driven advocate for the people is here and that Cheri Honkala is that
candidate.
“For almost 30 years, Cheri has
been a committed poverty-rights activist, having seen first-hand the massive
holes in the nation’s safety net as she single-handedly raised her young son
(actor & filmmaker) Mark Webber, in what is supposed to be the wealthiest
country in the world. Being a 17 year-old single mother living in her car while
going to high school are conditions that no one should face, yet Cheri not only
graduated from high school but became a world-renowned activist who has
tirelessly spoken up for those without a voice.
“Hardly a political neophyte,
Cheri ran for Sheriff of Philadelphia as a member of the Green Party in 2011
and was Jill Stein’s Green Party running mate in the 2012 presidential
election. In 2017, she ran in a special election to fill a vacant seat in the
US House of Representatives, finishing second to Democratic write-in candidate
Emilio Vazquez whose win has been clouded by scandal and is currently under
investigation by the Philadelphia Attorney General's Office and Pennsylvania
Attorney General.
“Cheri is one of the most honored
and respected activists in the country, having been named Woman of the Year by
Philadelphia Weekly (1997) and Ms. Magazine (2001), as well as being named to
Philadelphia Magazine’s list of the 100 Most Powerful Philadelphians and chosen
as the Pennsylvania Association of Social Workers' Public Citizen of the Year.
Cheri also received the Bread and Roses Human Rights Award.
“What do we want in a leader? Do
we want an American oligarch who has complete contempt for the people he took
an oath to protect and whose staggering disregard for international diplomacy
puts our very safely as risk? In 2016 we replaced “politics as usual” with a
dangerous, rank outsider who has done nothing but make life worse for the
people under his care and who spends his days shredding the Constitution while
hurling petty insults over social media.
“There is a third option.
“Cheri Honkala is a dedicated
social justice advocate who cares for all people and who truly believes that
for a country to be great, it must lift up all of its people. The system is
broken and our nation is plagued by an epidemic of food insecurity and
inadequate shelter. There are millions of hard-working Americans who do not
have adequate access to the absolute basics of human existence: food, clothing,
shelter and medical care. We the undersigned believe this is a crime against
humanity and we believe that Cheri Honkala is the right woman to address these
wrongs and guide our country towards being a fair, just and prosperous country
for all Americans.”
