IDFA bids farewell to 20-year senior programmer te Pas

After 20 fantastic years with arguably the world’s biggest documentary festival, International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, IDFA has bid farewell to senior programmer Martijn te Pas.

According to the IDFA statement announcing Pas’ exit after meritorious service: “We will miss him dearly and wish him nothing but the best on his new chapter in Stockholm. On to the next adventure!

“In the last two decades, our team has transformed a lot. But through all the new faces and films, Martijn’s brilliant programming has played an indispensable role in IDFA’s vision, unwaveringly contributing to the organization it is today. In particular, Martijn worked extensively with music documentaries and our Dutch documentary competition, two long-standing pillars of the IDFA film program. Several focus programs also stand out among Martijn’s accomplishments. In 2016, he curated The Quiet Eye, including two screenings accompanied by a live score which proved nothing short of magical.

“But his biggest accomplishment is undoubtedly his humbling connection with countless filmmakers and colleagues around the world. Many who work with him to this day consider him a close friend, often going beyond the bounds of a typical working relationship. Likewise, he has a knack for warming the hearts of those he meets for the first time, and leaving a lasting impression.

“All of us at IDFA will miss his warm presence at the office and his inspiring passion for documentary cinema. If, like us, you have a hard time saying goodbye, then fear not. He will continue to work from abroad and will remain part of the IDFA team until December 1st, 2019. Of course, he will also participate in the next festival edition in November, where well-wishers will be able to give him a proper send off in person. Until then, bon voyage, Martijn!”

Oseyiza Oogbodo Blog also wishes you well in your future endeavours, Martijn.
