Ghana turns to Siemens

Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghana President
One of Ghana’s most significant achievements is that it once celebrated ten years of uninterrupted power supply.

Even Nigeria which is supposed to be Africa’s most important country has never recorded such a milestone.

But as is the case sadly with Africa which is why South Africa, arguably the continent’s best country presently, is currently battling with energy issues, Ghana too began to have energy issues after its ten-year milestone which should have positioned it for a lifetime milestone.

And in a bid to achieve stable power supply which is the only way to economic growth for any country, it has now signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Siemens to upgrade and extend its transmission infrastructure, improve its grid capacity and stability, and enable and expand a stable power export to neighbouring countries in the West African Power Pool.

“Access to electricity is an imperative need for the people and business and, thus, the success of any economy. As Ghana has significantly invested into generation capacity, there is now an urgent need to build a reliable, affordable and sustainable electrical network for the country and its people. With our proven and unique end-to-end electrification solutions, our expertise and reliability, Siemens can be a technology partner and help the country achieve its objectives,” Joe Kaeser, President-CEO, Siemens, said.

“We applaud Ghana for all its achievements under the leadership of President Nana Akufo- Addo. We are eager to contribute to Ghana’s successes by creating local value and being a powerful and reliable regional partner to the country's socio-economic development goals,” he added.

Siemens will also support Ghana’s increasing need to reform its national Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system by educating and training young Ghanaians in various engineering disciplines and also providing training on Siemens equipment for STEM education and TVET.
