GTBank and its horrible ATM service
If there’s a prayer all Guaranty Trust Bank customers should be saying presently, it’s that may they never have cause to use the bank’s ATM machines in the early morning hours at least.
In this digital day and age, it’s
quite annoying and disappointing as well that GTBank ATM services are horrible
going by the experiences of this blogger recently at their Ojuelegba branches.
What’s most frustrating about the
experiences is that they are two branches conveniently close to each other yet
the both of them are practically useless when it comes to their ATM service.
And their uselessness becomes
more glaring in light of the fact that Zenith Bank also has branches beside the
both of them and while the GTB ATMs are dead around 7am, the Zenith ATMs are so
alive you begin to wonder if GTB’s are situated on another planet.
Now, picture the actual scenario.
You go to Ojuelegba, Lagos knowing fully well that there are two GTB branches
there so you can use their ATMs. Point two is GTB now has ATM fingerprint usage
so you don’t even need an ATM card to withdraw money.
You get to the first branch which
is on the road from Mushin around 7.10am and it’s immediately obvious things
are not as they should be there as the expected activities are absent so it
seems like a ghost town. So you don’t even bother to go to the ATM directly but
you ask their security officials on duty the situation on ground.
Surprise, surprise! The security
guys who’re supposed to be helpful to you as a GTB account holder or just
prospective customer through the patronage of their ATM service are rude to you
instead. They know full well that the ATM is not working but they just say you
should go and try it. When you do so unsuccessfully, they’re not interested in
explaining the operating modules of their branch ATM service to you.
That’s the first scenario. The
second is the one in which as you’re stepping into the branch and the security
will let you know immediately that the ATMs are not working without any
explanation as to why none of them is working.
Since there’s another branch
close by, you’re not too bothered at the failure of the first one. But then
you’re shocked to see that the ATMs at the Zenith Bank next to it are busy
dispensing cash to their users.
Are your eyes deceiving you, you
wonder.
You head to the second branch on
Ojuelegba Road and before it is the second Zenith Bank branch with its ATMs
already working too. But when you get to the GTB, all ATMs are dead there too.
All your enquiries of the
security guys fall on deaf ears. They only reluctantly after your insistent
questioning reveal that the ATMs will only begin working from 9, 9.30am,
according to them.
You therefore end up frustrated
in your effort to use your bank’s ATM machines for reasons best known to the
bank and its staff.
Those reasons however aren’t justified because the bank closest to them is reliably offering the same service they’re failing in in the same area and the circumstances.
