Omawumi challenges Tiwa Savage

Much has been said about Tiwa Savage’s return to the music industry and its implications for her rivals. And since her return, Savage has proven she’s back with a vengeance to retake whatever ground she’s lost. Since her return, she’s released her album and two videos, and her rivals have been surprisingly quiet, almost as if they’ve conceded that their leader is back, so they better defer to her. Only Yemi Alade, who shone most in Savage’s absence, has even dared to release a single since Savage’s return. And that single is the Swahili version of her song, Nagode, and it almost seems as if nobody’s reckoning with it. But it now seems that Savage is not going to have it all her own way as she’s now going to face veritable challenge in the form of Omawumi who has dropped the video of her latest song, Play Na Play, featuring Grammy winner, Angelique Kidjo. Already, there’s been a running supremacy battle between Omawumi and Savage. Prior to Savage’s rise, Omawumi was the leading female artist. However, Savage stole some of Omawumi’s thunder, the consequence of which was that they both became to music what Genevieve and Omotola were to movies – joint leaders. Along the line, marriage and maternity responsibilities also forced Omawumi to bow out for some time like Savage and they are now both back at the same time with music videos that are spreading fast.
