Ronaldo cheated of FIFA, UEFA best player 2018 awards?

Lots of European football
leagues’ fans in Nigeria believe the matches are fixed. They draw this
conclusion based on referees’ decisions basically.
The 2017/2018 UEFA Champions
League season was another opportunity for the conspiracy theorists to buttress
their stance. In the quarter finals, it was Liverpool versus Manchester City,
the last two English clubs at a time when Spain still had three clubs there.
UEFA explained that away by
saying it was an open draw.
And at Russia World Cup 2018, the
implication of Cristiano Ronaldo being in Group B and Lionel Messi in Group D
became obvious to some at the second round stage. If both had topped their
groups and won their second round matches as expected of the two megastars,
then they would have finally met in a WC match.
Albeit a quarter final fixture, but
it would have been the most-talked-about match of Russia 2018, would have had
the most views and reaction and would have even been more significant than the
final.
So some here believe FIFA
deliberately planned it with the hope of Ronaldo and Messi meeting at Russia
2018 and some are already claiming that in the UCL this season, Ronaldo’s new
club, Juventus, will certainly meet his former club, Real Madrid, and even
Barcelona, through UEFA manipulations.
As a football fan myself, I’ve
always argued that even if matches are fixed, big matches such as Manchester United
against Chelsea cannot be fixed because there’s a lot at stake. Excluding the
financial stakes, there’s the mortal stake whereby lives are lost deliberately
or otherwise because of the outcome of such big matches.
So my conclusion is if matches
are fixed, they are lower league matches that do not really have much impact on
the world.
So many Nigerians also believe
the best player FIFA award is rigged. I always argue again that it’s not as
those that vote and who they voted for can be accounted for. However, we all
know there was a claim some years ago by a player that he voted for Jose Mourinho
as best coach and it didn’t reflect.
Now, Ronaldo has lost out on the
UEFA Player of the Year 2018. This is simply flabbergasting. With his
spectacular overhead kick and highest goals scored in UCL 17/18, the award
should have just been his.
But he has lost it and it makes
one begin to truly doubt the system … a system that Messi once won the FIFA
best player award in a certain year he failed to score at a World Cup finals.
However, I’m not really surprised
by Ronaldo’s loss of this UEFA Player of the Year 2018. For some time now, I’ve
suspected that he and Messi’s dominance of the best player awards might end
with both of them having done so for an unprecedented ten consecutive years.
So it’s either the end of an era
or a deliberate attempt to deny Ronaldo as it seems the vast majority of the
football community have always preferred Messi for his alleged humility and
selflessness over Ronaldo for his believed arrogance and selfishness.
Now I’m very sure of it that he
won’t be awarded the FIFA Best Player 2018 award. If he could lose this UEFA
best player which should have been a dead certainty for him, then I really fear
for him winning that of FIFA.
I said before Russia 2018 that
there would be no outstanding player at the tournament and there truly was
none. But they had to give someone the Golden Ball and they gave it to Luka
Modric when Ronaldo with his fastest goals of the tournament, hattrick against
a top side like Spain, and jaw dropping free kick goal against Spain that
earned Portugal a last gasp point against Spain should have earned him that
Golden Ball.
Candidly, there was no better
player than Ronaldo at Russia 2018. Is it Mbappe, Pogba, Perisic, Modric, Messi
… who really was better than CR7 at Russia 2018?
None.
The only thing is Ronaldo is
expected to go to great lengths to excel and he’s mainly recognised when he
does because he’s been too outstanding.
So he should have won the UEFA
2018 best player and he should win the FIFA best player 2018 but he has lost
the former and I won’t be surprised if he loses the latter, either because he
and Messi’s era is over, so they both shouldn’t win these awards again, or as
many football fans here believe, there’s truly manipulation in football and a
grand design against Ronaldo who at the end of the day is the best footballer
of his generation.
I await the FIFA best player
outcome.
