The Good Life serialization 9
How was he to get money to
finance his pressing unshakeable commitment to his parents in this sudden time
limit that was entirely his own fault? How had he even spent the mass of the
money in his accumulation?
Six months ago, his bank said. Yes,
that was when he met Dupe, one really hot babe who could only be maintained
with a lot of money and he was the
kind of guy who allowed his money to do his talking with the dames. But Dupe
was also very generous with the pleasures her body gave and he had gotten her into
his bed the very first day they met, which made him respect her more
considering that many ladies would also not mind having sex on the first date
but wouldn’t just so as not to seem cheap.

Dupe, however, knew her worth and
lived by her own rules. And her worth was such that after that very first date,
Uba wanted more and more of her and even without her having to come out to make
excessive demands of him, he had to meet up with her worth to continue to be in
her life.
Should I finish with her, he
asked himself. Then he remembered that just yesterday she had kept repeating
with real sincerity that she loved him. But do I love her?
Forget Dupe for now, his mind
told him. She’s not the issue right now. He closed her out of his thoughts, closed
his eyes and his quandary loomed larger than life. How would he procure the
money, which he needed desperately? Could he borrow? It was an option he didn’t
want. Interest would be too much.
He cogitated further.
Underground deal!
It slipped easily into his
consideration, having been in his mind all along. It was how he made easy,
fast, large bread and even now it was the only feasible way out of his present
financial abyss. He hadn’t done it for some time, maybe because he had amassed
some solid dough, but where was that dough now?
Gone like a puff!
He was dredged up from his
deliberations by a cheerful voice. “Hey, bright boy, what’s going on in that
head of yours that you didn’t even know I came in?”

Uba realized the worries must
have seeped into his facial expression. He smiled as he turned his head to face
his colleague who had spoken to him. “Hi, Adamu. Nothing much apart from all
these financial stress.”
Adamu Mohammed laughed. “C’mon, you’re a
bachelor. You don’t mean you’re in the red the way I am with a wife and three
kids?”
Uba wasn’t really in the mood for
the stereotypical singles-are-not-supposed-to-be-broke perception. “Come off
it. We all know your rich background,” he fired back.
Adamu was hurt. “My parents aren’t feeding me, you know,” he
snapped.
