Cyclone Idai victims get more aid with Japan $11.7m

Japan has decided to assist
Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe in their Cyclone Idai recovery with a $11.7m
emergency grant.
This aid is to provide
humanitarian assistance in the areas of food, protection for vulnerable people,
shelter, camp coordination and camp management and early recovery through three
international organizations including the World Food Programme (WFP).
From the aid, Mozambique will get
$9.85m, Malawi: $1.25m, Zimbabwe: $0.6m; which will be disbursed as $8.25m to
WFP; UNICEF: $2.1m and IOM: $1.35m, to carry out the assistance tasks.
The expected outcome of the
assistance is in each country as follows:
Mozambique
Food assistance to approximately
350,000 vulnerable people.
Approximately 27,000 people
gaining access to safe drinking water and safe sanitation.
Approximately 150 government and
NGO staff trained and approximately 160,000 people reached by participatory
community outreach on protection of vulnerable people including children.
Provision of shelter to
approximately 25,000 people.
Malawi
Food assistance to approximately
21,000 vulnerable people.
Approximately 6,000 adolescent
girls and women with reusable sanitary kits.
Approximately 14,000 children
with access to psychosocial support.
Zimbabwe
Food assistance to approximately
26,200 vulnerable people.
Approximately 5,000 government
and NGO staff trained on protection of sexual exploitation and child abuse in
emergencies.
Approximately 15,000 children and
approximately 8,000 young mothers with sanitary kits and community outreach.
Provision of shelter to
approximately 1,000 people.
