Oil, entertainment, manufacturing, technology, sports: which way forward for Africa?

Ujiri
The saying that the monkey is ugly but its mother loves it is quite apt for Africa and Africans.

Africa is currently trying to figure out how to fulfill its potential and consequently, many of its people have been proffering their own wise counsel.

Oil and gas have been really helpful to Africa and those in that sector believe they can lead Africa to the Promised Land. While they believe in their own potential, entertainers, especially in those the music and movie sectors, believe they can make Africa economically viable.

Yet those in the technology and manufacturing sectors are also scheming to be at the forefront of the new Africa.

And now, a sports sector person has come out boldly to claim that it’s his own sector, sports, that hold the keys to Africa’s salvation.

He’s by name Masai Ujiri, he’s president of the basketball club, Toronto Raptors, and according to him, Africa needs to invest in sports.

“We should be supporting teams here in Africa, that should be our vision. Sports is the next big thing in Africa,” he claimed.

Calling on investors to pay close attention, he added that the sports ecosystem should be the biggest thing on our continent, that it has the potential to create jobs and improve livelihoods, that African players are in top leagues worldwide and a former footballer, George Weah, is even president of an African state, Liberia.

So which way forward for Africa?

Is it sports, as Ujiri claims, entertainment, as Nigerian singer Zaaki Azzay, feels, oil and gas, manufacturing, technology or even some other sector, education, health or agriculture for instance?

If you know the way, just proffer it for Africa’s sake.
