ORAN awards Access Bank, inducts Monday Ubani

Access Bank has won the Online Reporters Association of Nigeria (ORAN) Customer Relations Bank of the Year award while Monday Ubani, legal maestro, has been inducted as an ORAN Patron.

The award was received on behalf of Access Bank by Abdul Imoyo, Head, Corporate Communications, Access Bank.

Ubani, Principal Partner, Ubani & Co Chambers, was unavoidably absent but was aptly represented by Barrister Ife Ajayi.

Both the award presentation and induction were held during the second-year anniversary ceremony of ORAN which held Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the City People Ball Room, Gbagada, Lagos.

Speaking on the theme of the ceremony, How Online Reporting Affects Governance/Financial Institutions, Ajayi emphasized that online reporters must be careful with their day-to-day activities.

“It’s true the world has become a global village. Even at that, the true journalism ethics must come to play. Journalists need to balance their stories. This will help you with libelous stories. Even at the court, it’s very challenging to reference online publication stories while filing a case. Online journalists still need to do more on integrity. This kind of forum should continue to educate more online reporters on daily reporting,” he said.

When it was his turn to speak, Imoyo praised ORAN for educating its members regarding writing unconfirmed reports, fake news without proper balancing.

“We need to continue the fight against fake news. Several organizations have lost a lot as a result of fake news that’s not confirmed. Someone who wants to post or publish sensitive stories should first confirm them before doing so.”

ORAN Patron and Publisher, City People Media Group, Dr. Seye Kehinde also spoke on the need for media practitioners to improve their skills in order to move forward.

The President, ORAN, Shehu Tijani Adegbola, who’s also the Publisher, Confirm News, gave the vote of thanks.

Some of the ORAN members present at the occasion were Funsho Akinwale, Publisher, ASA News; Isaac Oguntoye, Publisher, The Comment; Peter Iruobe, Publisher, Fujiipop; Richard Arthur, Publisher, Bottomline; Titilope Oshunlalu of City People; and Oseyiza Oogbodo, Curator, Oseyiza Oogbodo Blog.

Music performances were by Ceesky and H Y 2 and DJs Mystic and Bravo represented on the wheels of steel.
