Can Bukunmi break the entertainment jinx?

It’s very difficult to be a successful singer-actor, no matter how talented you are. It’s mostly either a case of you being successful as a singer or as an actor, or enjoying mainstream success in one and a little success in the other.

But mainstream success in both at the same time?

That’s virtually impossible as it seems to be jinxed.

Even in America the entertainment capital of the world, it’s been impossible to achieve success in both at the same time.

Will Smith, a successful rapper, had to leave music for acting. Mariah Carey, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Chris Brown and many other great singers could only achieve very mild success in acting. And actors who also tried to take on music also failed.

In Nigeria however, the singer-rapper Falz The Bahd Guy has managed to score notable success in both. After becoming a mainstream music success, he got lauded for his acting skills in Jenifa’s Diary and blockbusters that include Chief Daddy and Ten Days In Sun City.

And he’s also won the prestigious acting award, Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), twice, and this feat has cemented his status as having achieved substantial success in both music and acting, a deviation from the norm.

His success in both is notable because all the Nigerian actors who tried to sing failed, and you’re talking of big names that include Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Dayo Amusa, Jennifer Eliogu. Likewise singers who took on acting also failed.

So if Falz can be said to be the man who has really scored laudable success in both demanding fields simultaneously, one girl who can be said to be really coming up and very promising in both is Bukunmi Oluwasina.

She’s as talented as they come, has acted in several movies, recorded several movie soundtracks and dropped two major singles and their videos.

She looks like the real deal when it comes to singing and acting, unlike her colleagues, and if she remains consistent in both, as she has started very well in them, she just might become very hot in both simultaneously one day, so only time will tell.

In the meantime, we say, keep it up, girl.
