Again, Nigeria-based artist loses the Grammy

Burna
Many Nigerians are definitely downcast right now that the Nigerian music sensation, Burna Boy, is the latest Nigeria-based artist to lose out of winning the world’s most prestigious music award, the Grammy.

Before he was nominated for this year and lost out at the ceremony held on January 26, 2020, King Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti and Seun Kuti had also been nominated at least five times between them and they, and Nigeria thereby, lost out each time.

To help BB win, many Nigerians campaigned for him massively online, including his colleagues who put aside their own hopes of being the first to bring the Grammy to Nigeria, and hoped he would win just to elevate the Nigerian music industry.

Alas, another African singer who has already won Grammies before, Angelique Kidjo, won the category, Best World Music Album, over him and the other nominees.

Mind you, Nigerians have won the Grammy before. But they are not Nigeria-based music practitioners.

So who will be the first Nigeria-based musician that will win the elusive Granmmy and set a lifetime world record that can never be broken?

The wait continues.
