‘I weep for upcoming Nigerian actresses; why Nollywood productions are rubbish’
Lala |
In an emotional piece, an upcoming Nigerian actress has disclosed that she weeps for her colleagues while another disclosed the reason Nollywood productions are rubbish.
Pouring her heart out in the
short but salient composition she posted on a WhatsApp group for actors and
movie people in general, the actress whose identity Oseyiza Oogbodo Blog will prefer not to disclose for now didn’t
mince words in blasting the Nigerian movie industry popularly known as
Nollywood over the unjust way upcoming actresses are treated.
For long, Nollywood has been
plagued with tales of sexual molestation without any real proof and the actress
claimed it does exist with her post reproduced below.
“I weep for our upcoming young
ones in the industry. The movie industry is getting more corrupt every day.
Most directors and producers now believe in sleeping with the girls in order to
give them roles in films.
“They’re doing it even with
intimidation and the desperate ones are falling victims on a daily basis. A lot
of girls have sold their virginity, integrity, dignity and virtue just because
they want to act. Directors now single out the beautiful ones after audition
and ask them to come and collect their own script in their hotel rooms.
“Auditions have been abused.
Casting is now based on your cooperation to agree on their selfish interest
before you will get a better role. Major roles and semi-major roles are now for
sale, no longer on qualification (based on one’s performance).
“Bribery has eaten deep into our blood. Prostitution has taken over the industry, our locations have been disvirgined, so many of our girls now come back from location pregnant, it has become a norm that every location one or two persons must fuck, God forbid.
“A lot of people that are
talented are now running away from the industry because of these bad vices,
many marriages have been divorced because of this, so many relationships have been
called off because of these very activities.
“Many girls are now so cheap. Our
talents have been compromised, our hope tampered, our vision, mission and
ambition diverted.
Where do we go from here and for
how long are we going to continue like this? I call on AGN, DGN, AMP, SWGN,
CDGN and NGTO to help us tackle this issue and fight to put a stop to it before
things get out of hands.”
Reacting to the emotional post,
another upcoming actress commented that “and this is the reason we watch
rubbish every day. Just because they sleep with a particular girl, a role she
doesn't fit into will be given to her and at the end of the day, the movie
comes out so bad.”
Sexual molestation is not the
only problem upcoming actors have in the industry, though.
Another worrisome one is that
they allegedly have to pay sometimes to get roles and respected actress Kemi ‘Lala’
Akindoju recently waded into this issue when she called out a Nollywood
practitioner who engaged in this unwholesome act.
