Manchester United buys into Africa dream
Renowned United Kingdom football club, Manchester United, has also bought into the Africa dream which is currently disrupting the world.
With research results indicating Africa
is likely to become a key world player in the foreseeable future, many businesses
have begun establishing their presence on ground in Africa and Manchester United
have also now taken a first step in this direction.
It has reached an agreement with digital
TV operator, StarTimes, to distribute its exclusive Manchester United TV (MUTV)
content 24 hours daily in over 30 African countries that include Nigeria, South
Africa, Kenya and Ghana.
Speaking about the agreement,
which is touted to be significant because it’s the first time MUTV is
distributing to Africa widely, Phil Lynch, Chief Executive of Media, Manchester
United, said, “We’re proud to have hundreds of millions of passionate fans in
Africa and this long-term agreement will allow them to get closer to the club
through MUTV’s exclusive round-the-clock content from Old Trafford and the AON
Training Complex.
“MUTV is one of our most
important channels for engaging with fans around the world, whether through
linear or direct-to-consumer streaming platforms, and we are excited to be
significantly increasing its reach through our new partner, StarTimes, in
Africa.”
Also speaking, Kristen Miao,
Sports Deputy Director, StarTimes, said, “Manchester United is one of the most
iconic football clubs in the world. We are delighted to share MUTV with football
fans across Africa as part of our commitment to enhancing our subscribers’
experience.”
