Next President of Nigeria: Will Bola Ahmed Tinubu be better than Muhammadu Buhari?

Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Will Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria be better than Muhammadu Buhari or will it

be a continuation of Buhari’s directionless style?

Those are the questions now on people’s minds as they gradually start resigning themselves to the fact that Tinubu will be the next President of Nigeria.

As the election draws inevitably nearer, more and more people are now more concerned about if Tinubu will be a better President than Buhari as against before when they wouldn’t even want to hear his name connected to President.

In the first half of 2021, people would reject Tinubu outright as President. They would say his image wasn’t squeaky clean and that he was a kingmaker who shouldn’t be a king himself, just making other people kings.

Sadly for Nigerians with this sort of mindset, they don’t have any say in who will or won’t participate in the country’s governance at any level.

But if they were to compare all their complaints against Tinubu becoming President to those that also accompanied the current President, Buhari, before he attained the exalted position, they would have realized all the factors they believed are inhibiting Tinubu from the presidency are easily disposed of.

Talking about having a clean image that’s not tainted with corruption, Buhari also didn’t have one but in order to be made acceptable, he was washed so clean that even people who should know better courtesy of their perceived high intellect fell for him hook, line and sinker.

So if Buhari was made clean, how many seconds will it take for that to be done to Tinubu and it’s already being done because it can be said to be quite shocking the way people have started to accept him as the next President.

Probably the most stupid reasoning of such people against Tinubu is that he’s a kingmaker so shouldn’t be king.

This reasoning makes it obvious that such people aren’t I tune with reality and the way the human mind works.

Every human being wants the best for themselves and will only give it up grudgingly to others if they can’t get it themselves.

Having served as the Governor of Lagos State, it’s already obvious that Tinubu also wants the best for himself. And having conquered the political landscape as an undisputed leader nationwide, the only office that’s really befitting to him now is the presidency.

And without a doubt, he wants it. Even if he doesn’t, his wife, Oluremi, does and she’s definitely urging him to it.

But forget his wife, Tinubu wants it madly too. There’s no better office than it in the whole country. And it’s all the more valuable because only a few people would ever become President in our lifetimes and there’s no greater honour than being on that exclusive list.

Yes, Tinubu is a kingmaker, typified by many people in elective and selective political offices today only got there with his approval.

His greatest so far as a kingmaker is that he made Buhari President after Buhari kept failing in his attempts to become President.

But his history tells us that he also prefers to be the king himself which is why he first served as the Governor of Lagos State on return to Nigeria’s democracy in 1999 for two terms after which he started making governors because he can’t ever go back to it.

But he hasn’t ever been President so he wants to be.

And that’s why people who are practical and pragmatic are now asking if he will be a better President than Buhari?

The best answer to that is that anybody who becomes President after Buhari, so long as he’s from the southern part of the country, will be better than Buhari.

If there’s one thing obvious from Nigeria’s existence so far, it’s that when northerners are in power, the country always slides backwards, proving that their lack of regard for education in the north hinders their country management abilities.

Southerners do very well in leading the country, however, and the best Nigeria leader so far, Murtala Muhammed, is from the south. All the other leaders who’ve also moved the country forward greatly, Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, are also from the south.

Yakubu Gowon is a great exception from the northern part of the country. He’s however from a part of the north that’s southern in leaning and is therefore victimized by the core north.

So the danger for Nigeria has been that when the south moves the country forward while in leadership, the north drags it backward when it also gets a leadership opportunity and this is why Nigeria’s not progressing.
