Should Cristiano Ronaldo be blowing his own trumpet?

Much has been made of Cristiano Ronaldo’s comment that before him, his country, Portugal, never won anything in football.

And this failure was all the more glaring considering that Portugal was a respected football nation.

Many however see the comment, which came in the wake of Portugal’s weak loss to Spain to crash out of the FIFA World Cup 2026, as typical of why people prefer Ronaldo’s arch-rival, Lionel Messi.

According to such people, Messi is humble whilst Ronaldo is just full of himself.

But then in life, you have to blow your own trumpet.

So, was Ronaldo just living up to that adage or just overwhelmed by the death of his dream to win the World Cup as a player?

Or should he just leave it in people’s hands to recognize his significant historic achievements which were always a first for his nation?

It’s almost like being between the devil and the deep, blue sea.
