Asa: Glorifying or condemning Satan?
One of the songs that are
trending presently is Asa’s Satan Be Gone. It’s been quite some time that the
Fire On The Mountain and Mr Jailer singer has had any of her songs trend this
notably in the country.
Though she keeps releasing songs,
like Be My Man and Dead Again, which she released after her two biggest songs
which were firstly mentioned here, they didn’t really quite connect with the
Nigerian music loving public and promoters like her two biggest songs so far
and in fact the majority of the songs on her debut album, Asa, did.
But maybe because of its title
and its lyrics, Satan Be Gone is being noted, and the release of its video
recently has further helped it spread.
And it is this video which is raising
dust in some quarters. It is a current favourite on channels like Hip TV and
Trace Urban so those who have access to satellite TV are getting a good dose of
it.
And in terms of technicalities,
it is definitely flawless. It is however in terms of its plot that it’s
generating furore.
According to its plot, Satan,
that is Asa costumed as Satan, enters a church, goes to the pulpit, then begins
dancing in the area of the church where the congregation worship and then
eventually takes a bow back in the pulpit.
Suffice it to say that the video
does not do justice to the song’s title, Satan Be Gone. Rather, it evens seems
to glorify Satan with Satan dancing blissfully inside a church instead of
writhing in pains.
