Africa’s World Cup problem only confirms Africa’s main problem
After the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026, some took it upon themselves to claim that Africa made history as nine of its teams qualified from the group stage.
And there’s no doubt that it is history indeed.
Whether the history is Africa’s or FIFA’s is however
another conjecture!
Unsurprisingly, the supposedly historic progress began
to fizzle out from the second round as only two of the historic nine teams,
Egypt and Morocco, made it out from there and since then the history talk has
beaten a fast retreat.
As a matter of fact, it changed from African teams
made history to how they were losing their games by conceding late goals
especially in the 86th-minute.
And the reason they crashed out en masse is not just
an African football problem but Africa’s biggest problem: mentality.
Africa is underdeveloped for only one reason.
The mentality of its leaders especially!
These are people who don’t want Africa to progress
for reasons best known to them.
Shamelessly, the Presidents of African nations seek
medical care abroad when they should provide it at home. And they send their
children to schools abroad instead of developing education in Africa.
And there are so many more instances that can be
mentioned.
Inevitably, this mentality problem holding back
Africa eventually infects every African with its poison and it’s the reason why
Africa failed at the World Cup because it is failing as a whole.
Just a big shame, really.
