How Argentina proved unproven World Cup unethical support

Many things in life are tainted by controversies.

These controversies are most times pushed by sore losers of awards, those jealous of others’ successes and so on.

The Argentina national football team, which is boosted by the world-renowned talents of the legendary footballer, Lionel Messi, is no different in this regard.

Just as so many people love Messi because of the great heights his genius talents have taken him to, so many people are also against him definitely just from the belief that must it always be him?

So, when the FIFA World Cup 2026 started, the conspiracy theorists went into overdrive immediately that Argentina was being favored by FIFA hence the reason why Argentina was coming up against supposedly easy teams right from the start.

And, as the defending champion, maybe this was why Argentina was in the purportedly easy bracket as everyone knows that football is all about seeding and ranking that favor the best teams.

But, despite being in a bracket that people felt was manipulated for them, Argentina struggled greatly against Cape Verde, twice letting them equalize before finally winning them with an extra time own goal in the second round.

Then in the third round, they conceded two goals to Egypt before finally rallying late to win them with three goals of their own.

In the next round, they were drawing one goal apiece with Switzerland until the Swiss got what everyone claimed was a fake red card and so they finally won with two more goals in extra time.

In the next game against England, they went a goal down and came from behind late again to win with two goals of theirs.

And, based on their late rallies, the theory began to gain ground more and more that they were only pulling through because they were being supported unethically.

Many instances were cited of this claim.

Messi was supposed to get a red card for a very dangerous foul in their very first game against Algeria. The Argentines were committing serial fouls that the referees overlooked instead of punishing with yellow cards. A goal disallowed for Egypt was supposedly legal just like another for Spain in the final.

And, even as there’s no actual proof that they were being supported by the officiating, they unfortunately proved themselves with their absurd display in the final that they lost deservedly to Spain thereby, that maybe they were indeed carried to get all the way to the final.

Once there, however, they so showed themselves out with the very damning statistic that they didn’t have a single shot on target in a game of 120 minutes.

That is just in itself them proving that maybe they did indeed have some kind of support throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026.
