Top UK politician Ed Davey entitlement personality clouds his FIFA judgment
When Ed Davey, the top UK politician who’s the leader of the political party, Liberal Democrats popularly known as Lib Dems, demanded recently that the FA and UEFA should pull out of FIFA, it was a mindblower for several reasons.
One: Davey is a politician who should know better
regarding the situation for which he wants the pull-out.
Two: The above is further supported by the fact that
Davey himself is against the controversial Brexit in which Britain pulled out
of the European Union and is championing their return so he feels or knows very
well that pulling out of things isn’t always the best solution to things so why
is he championing the FA, UEFA FIFA pull-out if not for ulterior motives?
Three: His mind-blowing demand also makes it seem
like he has an entitlement mentality that the FA and UEFA are FIFA’s
cornerstone so if they pull out, FIFA will be weakened.
But since we never know how the wind will blow, what
if they do pull out and FIFA becomes even stronger?
That would surely be egg on his face and theirs if
they do heed his absurd, flabbergasting call.
Four: No idea is ever a totally bad one so his
pull-out demand might even be good if planned well.
And in that vein, if they do do so, it might just be
a blessing in disguise for football because FIFA will be able to work even
better with the lesser-football-developed nations than those under the FA and
UEFA to make them even better and so their pull-out will then be an all-round
winner for everyone.
That seems the most likely scenario in the event that
they do heed his mind-blowing advice and do pull out and if that does happen, the
football development of the nations they feel now that they are better than, they
will lose totally that relevance he feels they have now that makes him feel he
can use the threat of them pulling out as a way to settle his personal
grievances hidden under the guise of political neutrality considering that he
was one of those who publicly slammed the unjust ban of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans
from their Europa League match at Aston Villa in 2025 so it means he knows very
well that his pull-out call isn’t the right one.
And as to his belief that they can work with other
confederations and build their own global football governing body, a desire
that shows he already knows that his exit desire will cost them very dearly, he
will find out that that is easier said than done just like the European Super
League is struggling to take off due to massive opposition from UEFA so FIFA
will definitely fight them as well if they want to create their own global
body.
And if they do succeed, it should still be a win-win
for football as there will be serious competition between them then to be the
best and it’s football fans that will benefit greatly thereby.
